Lanyard to CUP HOLDER

Have you seen those Yeti - like cups that keep your drinks ice cold or steamy hot for hours???  I LOVE those things.  And, in my opinion, they REALLY do work at keeping my drinks at the temp I want.  Anyway, while wasting my afternoon on YouTube, I saw this video and and this one, they made me think I could do something like that with a lanyard. My husband (AKA biggest Virginia Tech HOKIE fan on the planet!) had an old VT lanyard that he didn't use any more so I thought, and thought, and thought..... it COULD be made into a cup holder.

This is what the original lanyard looked like.  I forgot to take a picture before cutting it, so this was after the initial cut!

First I measured the distance around the top and bottom of the cup.

I made sure the strap was VERY TIGHT at each part, and to leave a little space to sew the next part on.

These are the sections that I cut. The one near the bottom of the cup, the one with the clip on it, is extra.  Didn't use that part, I'm saving it for another project!

Of course I forgot to take pictures of me sewing the straps together, but you can see from the following pictures that I made sure each strap was positioned correctly (the words were facing the right way!) and hand sewed the handle to the the top and bottom strap.  It isn't prefect, but it works.  I need to find another way to do the last step to make it look better.
Final project!!  He loved it.

Have a great day.

Teacher Appreciation Gifts

This year to show appreciation for all the hard work and dedication to
my kids teachers I was stumped. I love both of their teachers and it is
hard to explain how much I appreciate all they have done this year.
Unfortunately, my husband lost his job and is still looking for another
so we are a little strapped right now. So I looked through my "stash" of craft stuff!
Found these Christmas baskets!! Bingo! A little spray paint, and a new flower and get rid of the bells!
This is what the basket started like... and
Presto!!! Now to stuff them with some of the handmade cards that are sitting in boxes in my craft room.
I like both flowers! Not sure which one is better. The teachers seemed to love their gifts. AND, the price was right - just the cost of a can of yellow spray paint! Right in my tight budget!!

Thanks for looking!
Have a great day,
Cathy

Personalized Wedding Gift Idea

Back in November a friend was getting married and I wanted to make a personalized gift for her and her new hubby. They are a rather young couple so I thought a set of beer mugs would be clever. I used my previous ideas (here and here) from teacher appreciation gifts and applied it to this one!

Went to the Dollar Tree (my personal fave!) and bought 3 beer mugs. I like to have one extra in case of an "oops!". Used my Cricut machine to cut out a Mr. and Mrs. label out of vinyl for the glasses. I use the sticky stuff to cover drawer bottoms and cupboards, it is much cheaper than the stuff for craft projects. Sorry forgot to take a pic of that step!

After sticking the vinyl on the glasses had to curve up the plastic so the etching stuff didn't drip down the side of the glass. Watch this step carefully because the cream does drip and will ruin the project if it gets on the other parts of the glass.

Both glasses turned out pretty nice. The new Mr and Mrs Yoko loved them!!

Very cute personalized wedding gift!

Teacher Appreciation Gifts

This week was Teacher Appreciation Week, and of course when I hear WEEK that means Friday!!! I can never get my act together enough to have gifts ready on Mon - Thurs!

This year I wanted to make a special THANKS for my 2 kids' teachers. They are very nice ladies who work extremely hard every day. My kids really like their teachers which makes the year seem so much better. From my experience as a teacher I know that if a student does not like you the year seems to drag on for the teacher and student!!

In the card I told each teacher that they are a Star in my child's eyes - (a blue plate just seem appropriate here for a STAR!)

Then I said that I would say THANKS a million times for all the hard work if I could but I'll just say it 3 times - Once in German...

Once in French...

And finally in English...

Each child wrote a quick card, and I added my appreciation. I hope they liked the gifts. Now I have to come up with another idea for an end of the year gift!
Thanks for looking.

Thank you Gift bags

I made a couple gift bags for my kids' teachers. They were pretty basic but were a big hit with the ladies. I think I like the pink one with the vertical stripes better. Not really sure why, but then again, I like the yellow flowers on the other bag too!! Guess I like them both!!
The white part is kinda plain, I wasn't really sure what to do there, so left it just white. Maybe I should have used my sponges to ink around the edges of the paper. I'll try that next time.
