Repurposing a Man's Neck Tie

I have a new fascination with zippers!!  Not sure how this happened but I've been looking on Pinterest and YouTube for any ideas that use zippers.  One that I came up with was to re-purpose a man's neck tie to something else.

I started out with this Virginia Tech tie I bought at Goodwill.  It was about $3.00

Next I opened up the tie from the back.  I forgot to take a picture of this part, but it opens up to a rather wide piece of fabric.  Iron it flat and added some interfacing to make it a little stronger.

The end product was a small wallet that is almost big enough to hold my husband's iPhone 6.  I forgot to add some extra length in the zipper end so it didn't open up wide enough for the phone.

This is the inside, added some orange fabric that I had in a stash!

Tadaaaaa the final product!! It turned out pretty cute.

Thanks for looking
Have a great day.

Father's Day Photo Album

This is a photo album I created for my husband using his favorite HOKIE colors (he graduated from Virginia Tech!). The front is pretty basic, but he loved the colors. The letters are stickers.

I used my SIZZIX letters to cut out the DADDY part, and adhered it to each page of the album. I know there are tons of much nicer albums out there with the same idea, but this was made with my kids and myself with tons of love!

To make the pages I used 5 pieces of card stock that measured 6 inches by 11 inches. Then I staggered the pages out and folded them to make the pages. I hope I'm making sense here, it is hard to describe. Don't have a picture of this step, but I'll have to go back to my "drawing board" to see if I can recreate it. Sorry about missing that step with the camera!!

Here is a shot of the back of the letters. I used a second piece of the shadow part of the letters to make it look nice from the back.

Thanks for looking!

Father's Day 2007

I almost forgot about this gift for my hubby!!! My kids and I made this a couple years ago. He went to Virginia Tech - so we had to use the official colors of maroon and orange! GO HOKIES!!!
As you can probably tell this is just made up of the terra cotta planters and some paint. The glass part is just a vase, all the pieces are from Michaels. It is filled with Jelly Belly' jelly beans. It was a big hit, I think the kids liked it more than Daddy did!

My favorite part is the little "holder on the top. I filled it with white jelly beans then added extra Mod Podge to seal it. Finally I used a spray sealer just to make sure the paint is safe.

My husband still has this in his office. That is the part that means the most to me!!! :-)
