Valentine's Day for Hubby

This year for Valentine's Day I wanted to do something "cute" and inexpensive for my husband. Didn't want to go too crazy with all the candy and hearts stuff. He really isn't in to all that.

I wanted to do something that reminded me of the old initials carved in a tree trunk. I always loved that when someone took the time to carve their initials and a heart in a tree! So sweet, also showed that it would be there forever! That thought kept going through my head, hmmmm..... not sure on how to replicate that idea.

I thought a wooden frame with our initials on it! YES, that's the answer!

Valentine's Day Teacher Gift

This year for Valentine's Day I made these gifts for my kids' teachers. They are always a hit with everyone. Pretty easy to make too. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the process to make them. This is the final project this year. These were a lot more work than I anticipated. The vases were more involved than my previous vases made from candy bars.
They are very cute though. But of course I didn't start until the night before so it was hard to get everything done in one night. Filling the vases was more expensive than I anticipated too. Bought the vases at the Dollar Tree, maybe I should have gone for a smaller one, then I wouldn't have had to fill with so many treats!
Below are chocolate rose vases from previous years. These two look so BLAH, boring! YAWN!! I'm sure I added green ribbon as the leaves but can't find a picture of them - Sorry! To make the vases I hot glued 4 Hersey's bars around a piece of styrofoam, then filled with either M&M's or some conversation hearts. They are very cute and make everyone smile.

These are easy to change up for a birthday gift too. Add some balloons and use "birthday-ish ribbon" to decorate the choco vases. They turn out very cute.

Another YUMMY Valentine Snack

I know my kids and husband would love to dive into this snack. I might be creating this over the weekend!!!

Valentines Day Cupcakes

While out looking for some cute Valentine's Day ideas I came across this SUPER cute idea for cupcakes. Thanks to Alison at Alison's Wonder Scraporium for sharing this, I love it! She has a great recipe for strawberry Laffy Taffy bttercream icing there too.


The recipe looks pretty easy, I might try it with just a box cake mix first then see how that works before trying a cake mix from scratch. I'm NOT a baker, just like to try new ideas.

This is such a great idea that it could be used for any Holiday - St Patrick's day shamrock, Halloween pumpkin, or for a birthday - any thing that has a little cookie cutter!

Valentine's Day Card

This is a very early Valentine's Day card. I was involved in a swap on SplitCoast Stampers and finished up a little earlier than expected.
I love pink and brown together so decided to make the card with those colors rather than the traditional red and white.

Almost forgot about this Frame

This is an older frame that I added some sweet bling to!! This must have been my inspiration for the one with small hearts. It turned out pretty cute, cut some of the words on the candies got blurry from the Mod Podge. (If there is a next time)I'll spray the candies with a sealer first then adhere them to the frame.

This was tucked away in a corner of a cabinet so there weren't any pictures added or anything. Guess I'll have to dig one up. Thanks for looking.

Altered Valentine's Day Frame

This is a frame I created for my husband for Valentine's Day this year. I bought a container of the sprinkles from the Target $1.00 section, it had hearts and red/white/pink sprinkles included. They were very cute and I knew if I bought it I would think of something to do with it. Never did I think it would be so time consuming! The frame was from Ikea, it was about $1.00 or $1.50 something like that. I think it was just an unfinished wood frame so had to spray paint it red to match the VDay theme! Then I had to pick out just the little hearts and separate from all the other tiny little pieces in the jar. Used Mod Podge to adhere to the frame. My kids started out helping but got bored with the project quickly!! Bummer, cheap help is so hard to find!! LOL This actually took me longer than I thought because I ran out of hearts and had to run back to Target and pray that they had more of the cake decorations! Thankfully they did. The total project took about 2 full days of work, which included drying time, to finish. Lots of work with little pieces, not my best work - my eyes are not as good as they used to be!

I think it turned out pretty nice, but as you can see I haven't put a picture in it yet! He has seen the final picture, but is still waiting for me to add a picture. Maybe by Valentine's Day 2010. Below is a close up of the tiny hearts. Thanks for looking!
